MAY 14 Bottom neck fill. Ruby. Lovely and elegant floral nose, detailed, layered, seductive nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner palate but playful and detailed, lovely freshness, not the most complex but very charming indeed, long.

MAY 11 Garnet with broad orange rim. Dried fruits, leather, plums, figs, dates and a faint spicy note nose. Fresh acidity, tannins gone, sweet and sour, elegant and smooth texture, redcurrants, plums and figs, long. Second of the two bottles bought at Kjaer. 93

1962 Clos Fourtet
DEC 05 Ruby, broad brick rim, sediments. Morellos, cherries, minerals, anise, earthy nose, so e tobacco and autumn leaves. Fresh acidity, no tannins left, cherries, figs, earthy, some dates, elegant texture. Lunch with David in Copenhagen. Bought at Kjaer & Sommerfeldt, they bought two cases directly from the estates cellar. 92

1947 Clos Fourtet
SEP 12 Château bottle, mid-shoulder fill. Deep ruby, brick rim, floral, blueberries and some leather. A bit more fine-tuned than the last bottle from same cellar and similar fill, not as intense, more fragrant. Fresh acidity, tannins gone, lively, fresh, elegant, feels quite pure. No notes from Broadbent. 94

1947 Clos Fourtet
MAY 12 Mid-shoulder fill, good soaked cork. Ruby, brick rim. Leather, plums, figs, floral, hyacinth's and roses. Splendid nose, quite rich body, but a bit one-dimensional. Elegant, chocolate with more air. Fresh acidity, tannins gone. Adding and adding, very long, if a bit lean. Getting almost Port-like on the nose for a few minutes before quietly and very slowly starting to die off. 94-95 at its best, lasting nicely longer than we had it in our glasses. 95

1945 Clos Fourtet
SEP 12 Château bottled. Bottom neck fill. Perfect cork (soaked). Bottle came directly from the cellars of a British Lord and has laid in his cellar since release. Bright ruby, thin brick rim. Blueberries, rich, intense, gorgeous purity, leather, figs and tobacco behind. Elegant palate and fresh acidity. Some tannins still, delicate, layered, mouthwatering, very harmonious. Long and refreshing. In the 1983 Great Vintage Wine Book by Broadbent, 'Fine colour, nicely made but austere, Médoc-like. Long finish ***. Last tasted at Berry Bros in 1972. Drink now-1990'. This is exactly how I feel younger Clos-Fourtet's have behaved, even if the latest vintages have been less austere with more fruit.
Still manages to make elegant Saint-Emilion.  95
