2002 Château d'Yquem
MAR 11 Pale golden, apricots, vanilla, pineapples, one of those wines that the glass was all of a sudden empty, and you just experienced that it heightened the conversation without being the conversation. It's a delight that that can still happen, even with an Yquem in the glass. 91

2001 Château d’Yquem
SEP 12 Pale golden. A different aspect now as the wealth of aromas and fruits have been explained so many times before. It takes control, you’re on in its terms. It lets you play at your context, your knowledge, your level. Everything is in balance, everything is there, perfection yet again, the grapes plays with you, and it takes time to spot all its secrets. I can open a new world of flavours and gardens, if you look for them, and even so, it’s so easy to just lay on that one perfect beach that you found at the first sip. Magnificent. 100

2001 Château d'Yquem
AUG 12 Just a few weeks ago I stated it was almost embarrassing to post another note on this perfect wine, and yet, I've already been lucky enough to have it again. (Demi) Pale golden, pure, rich, intense, apricots, pineapples, vanilla, beyond refined, layered and complex. Balanced beyond words, fresh acidity neatly packed in silk, playful and refined, gorgeous as always, perfection. And yet again, hardly any evolution at eleven years. Enormous length. 100

2001 Château d'Yquem
AUG 12 Here we go again. I've tasted this one so many times it's getting embarrassing, and every single time, I'm blown away. Golden, so pure it's impossible to describe it fully. Comes, gives, comes and gives again. Waves of flavours. Fresh and lively acidity, subdued, stunning, gorgeous. Perfection before, perfection again. 100

2001 Château d'Yquem

Paleish golden, unbelievable purity and refinement, layers and layers, stunning youthfulness, has everything you can imagine of tropical fruits and citrus, apricots and the likes. Superb balance, unbelievable purity, refinement, seductive, intense yet, well tender would be the wrong word, but something in that direction, minutes of length. Still 100

2001 Château d'Yquem
APR 11 Botrytis, pineapple, tropical, honey, peach, apricots, everything in abundance, so seductive, so complex, so refined. Stunning balance, acidity is perfection, everlasting, extraordinary. Fantastic to taste it besides another favorite of mine, the 1986. 100

2001 Chateau d'Yquem
MAR 10 (demi) Perfection. 100
That doesn't do it for you now does it? But it's true. This is utterly perfect. Tasted it once before, from a double magnum, and it's exactly as good in compact size. Pale golden, some botrytis, apricots, honey, subtle and extremely complex, buttery popcorn, toffee, real English ones, such elegance, orange peel, lemon, apples, pure beauty, sunshine in liquid form, so seductive, such purity, transparent and layered, massive and elegant, magnificent, I run out of superlatives on this one, a marvel. And even down here, it gets the same score. 100

1998 Chateau d'Yquem;
NOV 09 Golden colour, pure youth still, all the nuances one want's from a Sauternes, apricots, peach, apples, pineapples, botrytis, still some vanilla notes, pear, some minerals in the back. So complex and elegant, and still such graceful intensity. Good acidity, needs another 20 years, extremely long finish. Surpriced that a 98 can be this beautiful. Love it. 96

1996 Château d'Yquem
MAR 12 Golden, vanilla, apricots, intense, very complex nose. Fresh acidity, lively, heavy and rich, but starting to let go of the bitterness that for some reason, I've always found on the half bottles, but not the regular bottles of the 96 Yquem. Very long length, this is getting better and better. 94

1996 Château d'Yquem
AUG 11 It amazes me how different this vintage is yet again in full size bottle compared to in demi. Golden, fresh and lively with apricots, pineapple and ample botrytis. Feels so much more refined, balanced and layered, more accomplished and put together. Superb balance and length, very refreshing. 95

1996 Château d'Yquem
JUN 11 Golden colour, botrytis, pineapple and apricots, so much fresher than the last bottles I have tasted of this vintage, and more refined as well, a difference between demi's and full bottles seems to be detected as well, feeling more pure and gorgeously textured than the latest bottles (demi's that have been slightly rough, if you can ever call an Yquem that), and this with an exceptionally long length. Stunning with the raspberries next to it. 95

SEP 12 (Served blind) Golden. Apricots, vanilla, pineapples, youthful and tight. Fresh acidity, superb balance, pure feel, long and nuanced. The most elegant and layered bottle I've had of this and still very young in its expression. Broadbent states 'Perfect now, yet great future' all the way back in 1998. I could not agree more, today. I nailed the estate, but it felt too fresh for 1990 for me, I was on 1997.... 94

1989 Château d'Yquem

1988 Château d'Yquem
JAN 17 Amber. Four hours in decanter! Rich, concentrated, apricots, vanilla, intense, deep, layered, grilled pineapples and cinnamon, quite massive and up front nose. Almost leaping out of the glass. Fresh acidity, intense, deep, layered, rich and fruity, dried fruits, chocolate, intensely rich, candied apples, refreshing, playful, long, gorgeous. WOW, what has happened here?  97

1988 Château d'Yquem

1988 Château d’Yquem

1988 Château d'Yquem
MAR 15 Pale amber. Rich, apricots, peach, canned pears, fruity, intense nose. Fresh acidity, ripe and fruity, intense, ripe, rich, fresh and fruity, detailed and playful, long, finally losing the bitter notes, or just my first perfect bottle? 94

1988 Château d'Yquem
APR 11 Served at the 2010 Yquem Primeur tasting at the Grand Theatre in Bordeaux, golden with amber hue, apricots, caramel and heavy notes. Fresh acidity, but oxidized style that I feel is typical not only for Yquem in 88, but also Suduiraut and a few others, lacks freshness, a lot older feel to it now than the 86 as an example. 86

1988 Château d’Yquem
APR 11 Golden. Tropical fruits, caramel and slightly burnt notes. Fresh acidity, slightly hollow and bitter, lacks freshness and details. 86

1988 Château d’Yquem
FEB 10 Golden. Pineapples, fruity and some burnt sugar notes on the nose. Fresh acidity, fruity, but all the way overshadowed by almost bitter burnt notes. 87

1986 Château d'Yquem
JAN 16 Served blind. Golden. Apricots, fruity, pineapples, vanilla, touch of cinnamon, fruity, intense, developing. Fresh acidity, fruity, fresh, lively, some caramel notes, apricots, somewhat bitter finish, long. With answer in hand, not optimal bottle. 93

1986 Château d'Yquem
FEB 15 Deep golden. Rich, intense, apricots, nuts, intense, caramel, deep, heavy, light floral notes above. Fresh acidity, lively, intense, rich, brown sugar, deeper and heavier than former bottles of this vintage, deep, rich, intense, layered, long. 97

1986 Château d'Yquem
AUG 11 Golden, stunning nose, superb complexity and layers, floral, citrus, apricots, pineapples and tropical fruits, botrytis, so immensely fresh and vigorous compared to the 88 recently. Absolutely gorgeous length. 96

1986 Château d'Yquem
APR 11 Golden, complex, intense, pure and refined, botrytis, pineapples, apricots and marzipan. Superb complexity, gaining with air, astonishing texture and structure, gorgeous length, stunning Yquem. I tasted this for the first time in about 2003, and fell in love with it. Then again in 06, still exceptional and pure, and the sad ruined by storage last autumn, and happily now this one. Love it! 96

1986 Château d'Yquem
SEP 10 Deep golden, amber hue. Caramel, rubber and wellingtons. Good acidity, fresh acidity, caramel, apples, boring, a long finish, but without any distinct taste. Looking closer at the bottle (wine served blind) it seems it's had quite a leakage a few years back, so improperly stored somehow, probably to warm. What a shame..... Still 85

1986 Chateau d'Yquem

DEC 14 Golden, orange tint. Intense, apricots, honey, complex and layered, detailed, nuanced, floral notes, pure. Fresh acidity, superb balance, detailed, nuanced, fresh and lively, long, beautiful. 95

1985 Château d'Yquem
NOV 11 Golden, some botrytis, touch of apricots, leaner and simpler style Yquem (all grapes was picked in December this year, that was how late the botrytis turned up....). Yellow plums. Good acidity, elegant if slightly hollow, good length. 88

1985 Château d'Yquem
DEC 07 Golden. Pineapples, apricots, some crème brulée, some vanilla, touch of caramel nose. Fresh acidity, pineapples, fruit driven, apricots and raisins, nuanced, long and rich. Lively acidity. 94

1983 Château d'Yquem
SEP 12 (Served blind) Pale amber. Rich heavy nose, intense and unrefined first. That quickly blew over and turned into apricots, pineapples and exotic fruits. Fresh acidity, palate is a pure joy of balance. Very elegant and fresh, more easy going than the 90. In 2000 Broadbent writes 'Superb yet still evolving', true today as well. My freshest and richest bottle. I was on eighty- something Yquem. 95

1976 Château d'Yquem
APR 17 Deep golden-orange. Rich, caramel, ripe, massive nose, crème brulée, burnt sugar, extremely rich nose, deep. Fresh acidity, ripe, fruity, overripe berries, anise, spices, rich, fruity, intense, caramel, almost a burnt touch, butterscotch, long. 97

1976 Château d'Yquem
SEP 12 (Served blind) Amber, heavy apricots and rich fruity nose, while elegant. Fresh acidity, elegant palate as well, refreshing, towards playful, long, incredible finish. Gorgeous bottle. In 2001 Broadbent is '***** Though I think it is on decline' and 'at one dinner, describing it as a bit 'stodgy and four-square', but it might have been the raspberry soufflé'. It was definitely the raspberry soufflé, this bottle was superb with and without the crème brulée. I nailed both house and vintage. 96

1975 Château d'Yquem
DEC 16 Golden with amber tints. Orange marmalade, grilled pineapples, cinnamon, touch of sultanas and raisins, superb nose. Fresh acidity, playful, rich yet graceful, pineapples, some crème brulée and a light butter scotch feel to it, creamy, pure and bright, stunning length. 99

1975 Château d’Yquem
SEP 11 Golden, botrytis, apricots, orange bitter tones, fresh, superb refinement, layered and nuanced, not imposing at all, opens up beautifully, seductive and never big, alluring, enormous length, getting even longer after more air. Impressive in a very unexpected way. Wow! It's so tender, yet so layered and long lasting. Still fairly youthful. 97

1975 Château d'Yquem
OCT 07 Golden. Apricots, orange marmalade, pineapples, spices, sultanas, intense and layered nose. Fresh acidity, playful, detailed, intense, superb balance and freshness, angels choir. Long. 98

1969 Château d'Yquem
APR 11 Very top shoulder fill. Golden with amber hue, overripe strawberries, apricots, caramel, some cigar or sweet tobacco, floral notes in the back. Fresh acidity, some sweetness left, light body, quite elegant and nice balance, lacks some complexity and length. 87

1967 Château d'Yquem
JUN 17 Deep golden, amber tints. Lighter colour than last bottle. Intense raisins, sultanas, some pineapples, crème brulée, fudge nose, exotic spices. Fresh acidity, playful, lively, rich and intense, nuanced, stunning depth, dried apricots, long finish going into bergamot and orange marmalade. Stunning. 98

1967 Château d’Yquem
DEC 10 Fill bottom neck, very deep, almost amber colour with cognac hue. (picture is darker than actual colour because of lighting in the room) Caramel, botrytis, apricots, burnt banana, even slightly salty like a rainy seaside morning. Also raisins, ripe grapes, but caramel overshadows a bit. The acidity is pure perfection, so fresh and lively, cleansing and pure, intense wine, big somehow, a touch of citrus to freshen things up. Fantastic wine, the length is superb, great but still slightly disappointing. After one hour, more subtle and elegant, even better balance, caramel not so show off and dried apricots and raisins. 96

1966 Château d’Yquem
FEB 16 Amber. Dark chocolate, caramel, apricots and spices nose, almost a coffee note to it. Fresh acidity, bit bitter caramel and fruit stones mid palate, leaner, lacks fruit and concentration so one get bitter notes disturbing the overall impression, long skinny finish. 87

1961 Chateau d'Yquem
JUN 09 Good fill, B level, cork almost soaked, amber colour, beautiful fresh and clean nose, raisins, minerals, apricots, pineapple, slightly oxidized, some orange and lightly floral. Elegant body, nice acidity, a bit hollow, but fresh fruit, dates, a bit simple but a very good wine and better than most reviews. Nice finish. 87

1959 Château d'Yquem
OCT 10 B level fill, top shoulder. Amber with green yellow rim. Botrytis, apricots, raisins, nuts, vanilla, very complex. Pure, elegant, fantastic acidity, really refreshing, caramel, so much happening, complex and balanced, and that acidity just plays and plays in the mouth. Fantastic length, minutes on end. 97

1928 Château d'Yquem
OCT 12 Huge expectations, the best wine I've had, 28 Suduiraut, if there is a wine to beat it..... Difficult to read label, cork states quite clearly Yquem, Lur-Saluces, 1928. B/C level fill, above mid shoulders. Pale amber with broad green yellow rim. Nuts, apricots, apple, lemon, raisins, minerals and even schists. A glorious, layered and transparent in the best sense of the word mix of mature and more youthful flavours. Perfect balance in a different league, great acidity, such finesse, pineapples coming to join the elegant party, even coconut and papaya, acidity is tender, doing its job gracefully like the queen greeting her guests. Gorgeous length. Minutes again. But this bottle do not beat the Suduiraut, and that is mainly because of the Suduiraut’s length and even better freshness. The 28's seems to be marvels! 99
