AUG 10 Dead, likely from bad storage.

1976 Château Figeac
NOV 12 In the neck fill. Ruby, brick rim, lots of sediments. Wow, where do I begin? Very on an off bottle at the beginning, earthy and dusty going back and forth to scented and blueberries, wood polish and leather. It rested on the last luckily. Fresh acidity, ripe and polished off tannins, fairly lean and very old school. Not a great bottle but enjoyable although many would find it to old. 85

I enjoyed it but Madame Marie-France Manoncourt sitting beside me was not entirely happy and the above wine was served. Still I gave this a 94

1949 Château Figeac
APR 18 Jeroboam Ruby, garnet rim. Earthy, leaner, dried fruits nose. Fresh acidity, no tannins, lean and dried out, and Madame Manoncourt beside me quickly disapproved of it and made sure another carafe was poured. Not every day that is a possibility.

1949 Château Figeac
SEP 12 Mid-shoulder fill. My third bottle, and finally! Deep ruby, orange rim. Rich, heavy nose, difficult to see the nuances on this one, it’s like a ball. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, intense fruit. Powerful if mature. Blueberries, cherries, figs, almost massive. Rich palate as well, but nuanced. Very long. 'A particular feature is its extravagant fruitiness and glorious fragrance' in September 1998 from Broadbent. Spot on for the fruit, not quite on the fragrance. But I imagine this wine (bottle) should have been decanted for a few hours, and it would probably have been a few points higher.
95

1949 Château Figeac
MAY 11 Dead.

1949 Château Figeac

NOV 11 Ruby with broad brick rim. Chocolate, plums, figs, raisins, iron note minerality and faint violets nose, dried fruits. Exotic somehow. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant texture, some mint, fruit stones, light spicy touch again, long finish. Lacks some concentration somehow, but elegant. 92

1947 Château Figeac
DEC 07 Upper shoulder fill, soaked cork. Ruby mid core with broad brick rim. Scented, figs, dates, blueberries, tobacco, chocolate and exotic spices, elegant and nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, no tannins left, some figs and dates, light of spices, cherry stones, plums, lovely balance, very mature but still has it all, long. Beautiful wine. 96

1945 Château Figeac
SEP 12 Mis en bouteille par R. Villepigue proprietaire. Top shoulder fill, old moldy cork. Deep ruby, thin brick rim. Dark berries, leather, figs, floral hints, almost spicy. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, nice texture, nose far greater than palate that lacks fruit. Short would be to exaggerate it, but not that long either, a bit dry and rustic. Already in 1989 Broadbent states the following: 'extraordinarily sweet, almost Mouton-like power and fragrance. Overtaken by tannins'. Spot on for me, the nose excites and had the palate followed suit, this could have been towards perfect. Can it come around? The lacking fruit at 65+ years now indicates not. 89

1934 Château Figeac
APR 16 Deep ruby mid core, very broad brick-orange rim. Dusty, earthy, some figs, plums and warm stones nose. Fresh acidity, tannins gone, soft and fairly lean but seamless texture and body, bit short. 89

1926 Château Figeac
JUN 17 Brick core, orange-brown rim. Earthy, terracotta, some figs, faint violets note and blood-iron note minerals nose. Started out quite dusty but that blew off. Fresh acidity, no tannins left, very mature, leaner body and texture, some dried fruits, almost salty, again iron and some raisins. Seems to have had warm fruit somehow. Still alive, barely. Long finish. 93
