If this wine handles the quite raw wood it might reach higher than this score. 95-97

2008 Château Pavie
NOV 12 Dark ruby. Rich, sweet, dark and ungainly. Massive, rapes the palate. Not only that, why the heavy bottle? This could fare well in a Port tasting, but lacks the refreshing acidity of Port. Why make this in Bordeaux? Verges on undrinkable, at least with food, and if you manage more than one glass on its own, you're made of sterner stuff than me. 83?

DEC 10 Ruby. Dark fruits, anise, some spices, ripe, blueberry jam nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, dark berries, bit jammy, good length. 89

2003 Château Pavie
AUG 11 Deep ruby, cooked fruit, big, Port like, and actually has enough acidity. Ripe tannins, simple minded and not that long. A bit of a show-off. People enjoying this must love to at their dentist, it numbs the mouth in the same way. 87

2002 Château Pavie
JUN 13 Deep ruby. Rich, fruity and intense even in this vintage. Alcohol on the nose. Medium minus acidity, ripe tannins, you feel the alcohol all the way, numbs the palate and utterly boring. Unbalanced finish. 86

1998 Château Pavie
SEP 15 Ruby, thin garnet rim. Rich, ripe, fruity, intense, sweet, mint, complex and layered. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, ripe, rich, fruity, rounded, smooth texture, leaner for Pavie, detailed and long. Far better than last bottle. 94

1998 Château Pavie
NOV 11 Ruby, garnet rim. Rich, intense blueberry jam and chocolate, rolled in vanilla, stuffed in plums. Good acidity, ripe tannins, fatty texture, feels like a lot of alcohol on the body, rich.
85

1979 Château Pavie
FEB 16 Ruby, garnet rim. Blackberries, over mature raspberries, figs, tobacco and some chocolate nose. Freshish acidity, ripe tannins, rounded, fruity, dried fruits, some raisins and figs, leather and tobacco, soft texture, charming. Served blind, I was on 1981 Ch. Canon. 92

1971 Château Pavie
AUG 11 Ruby with orange rim, prunes and figs, more body than Dutruch next to it, but actually not that much more going on. Nice acidity, somewhat rustic texture, a bit lean, very different from today's Pavie, good length. 87

1945 Château Pavie
SEP 12 Château bottled, mid shoulder fill. Cork rotten. Deep ruby, thin orange rim. Dry, earthy, dusty and leafy. For me tired and drying out, but some would probably love even this. This bottle was just too old, otherwise no faults. Another wine without tasting notes from Broadbent.
