APR 15 Deepish ruby. Scented, dark fruits, floral notes, somewhat exotic, spices, layered nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, lively, fruity, intense, coffee and dark fruits, long. 93-95

APR 13 Deepish ruby. Scented, deep, dark berries, slightly ripe nose, but nuanced and layered. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, again ripe and slightly sweet, long but ever so slightly alcoholic finish. 90-92

MAY 19 Ruby. Blackberries, blueberries, rich, dark fruity, cigars, tobacco, chocolate, dense, liquorice nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, dark fruity, blueberries, rich, dense, there is alcohol warmth behind, layered, dense, dark fruity, some chocolate and coffee, long and ripe. 96

APR 15 Deep ruby. Blueberries, fruity, scented, detailed, floral notes nose, layered. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, soft, intense, ripe, fruity, red and darker berries, long. 95

2009 Château Trotanoy

OCT 12 Deep ruby. Deep blueberries, some vanilla and slightly floral nose. Some white chocolate and slightly scented. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, tight, velvety texture, pure feel and very long. 14,5 alcohol feels integrated, but served ever so slightly chilled. 94

FEB 13 Ruby, garnet rim. Dark fruits, figs, tobacco, leather, spices, prunes, surprisingly evolved for the vintage. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, fresh, dark berries, elegant and has a lot going for it but lacks a bit of depth for the vintage, long. 91

JAN 13 In the neck fill. Ruby with garnet rim. Even after an hour in decanter it's tight. Scented floral overtones. Blueberries, touch of Christmas spices, black tea, come and go in the glass, opens and closes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, mouthwatering. Tight even after two hours in decanter, a ball with things going on inside. Long but very tight. Falling apart after four hours in decanter. At this bottles peak: 95

1988 Château Trotanoy

MAY 13 Ruby, garnet rim. A bit tight first but opening up quicker than last bottle a few months back. Blueberries, leather, some prunes and a scented and floral nose with air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner body that became more rounded and elegant after about an hour, but always retain the slight austerity of the vintage. Long. 92

1988 Château Trotanoy

JAN 13 Very earthy and almost dusty first. After two hours in decanter a totally different ballgame. Truffles, blueberries, cedar and leather. Sous bois and anise. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing and elegant fruit, towards seductive, layered and complex. Long finish. 95

JUNE 15 Bright ruby, brick rim. Dark fruits, intense nose, some spices, blueberries, light figs note, light floral note, layered and nuanced, stunning nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, elegant, refreshing, nuanced, playful, long. 96

JAN 14 Ruby, garnet rim. Scented, detailed, flirting, minerals, graphite even, nuanced, blueberries, tobacco, gorgeous nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, bit tight and somewhat lean, but refreshing and lively, long. 94

NOV 12 Bright ruby. Very tight and almost green first. After an hour, still tight but flirting, blueberries, chocolate, floral and scented with even more air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, more body with air, refreshing but also somewhat stalky. One of the youngest 85's I've tasted. 93

1983 Château Trotanoy

FEB 17 Low neck fill. Ruby, brick rim. Blackberries, cherries, scented, anise, leather, tobacco, floral, almost a sandy mineral feel to it (think warm sand on a beach), iron touch, mint. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, still structured, firm, red berries, cherries and blueberries, fruity and long finish. My last bottle out of quite a few bought for next to nothing as everyone believe there is no good stuff in Pomerol in 1983. This one begs to differ and was not even the best out of several. 95

JAN 14 Ruby, brick rim. Blueberries, tobacco, tea, leather, some exotic spices, figs and prunes, layered, deep and detailed nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe, intense, spices, tobacco, figs and blueberries, superb bottle, fill just under the cork. Superb balance and finish. 98

OCT 13 Ruby, thin orange rim. Tight, scented, some blackberries and black tea, nuanced, floral and sublime elegance, gorgeous nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, bit tight, lovely balance, nuanced and fresh, youthful, subdued yet intense, amazing length, waves upon waves, gorgeous and long. Served blind, and I, miraculously, nailed vintage and producer. Even if tighter than last bottle. 97

AUG 12 In the neck fill. Soaked cork. Ruby with brick rim, rich tobacco, plums, almost cedary, flirting, and after some great Burgundies, flirting like few. Complex and layered, cigars, perfumed, hyacinths, violets hardwood and anise. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, biting texture, a bit lean mid-palate first but got richer with air, fuller, after 45 minutes a perfect palate. Balanced, elegant, even if not rich, surprisingly powerful. Fantastic length. 96

MAY 13 Ruby core, garnet rim. Scented nose, figs, blueberries, tobacco, seductive and charming nose, surprisingly rich if mature. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, smooth, elegant and nuanced, quite mature and peaking, must be a perfect bottle. 94

NOV 13 Bottom neck fill. Ruby, garnet rim. Still dark fruits, cherries, tobacco, dark chocolate, figs and prunes nose. Fresh acidity, some firm tannins still, fruity, rounded, intense, dark berries, spices, long. Seductive. 94

Aug 11 Ruby, brick rim. Tobacco, blueberries, exotic spices, cherries, figs and leather nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins soon gone, smooth, exotic and fruity, superb balance, elegant, a term I normally don't use, sexy even. Long. 95

APR 16 Ruby, garnet rim. Scented, earthy, sous bois, tobacco, figs, prunes and raisins nose. Fresh acidity, ripe and few tannins, ripe, still quite fruity, detailed, tobacco, long. Seductive. 95
