First whiff, pure wet dirt. Then a fantastic pure blackcurrant nose, some cedar
and cigar box comes along, with more air hints of lacquer, hardwood floors,
liquorice and coffee in the back. Some of the forest floor lingers on. After
one hour some leather. Incredible nose. Ok acidity, tannins gone, pure fruit,
light alcohol, so refreshing, such opulence and elegance. Lacks some
complexity, but so elegant, quite a charmer and a great bottle of 1987. 86

fantastic finish, last for so long if the taste wasn't this fantastic, it would
be boring. Keep up to 30 more years, maybe more. 98

sure if it's the day (root or fruit or whatever), but every bottle (other than
the Chablis) seems tighter today than normal. Even this rich, exotic, prunes,
cassis, sweet tobacco, spices, over the top Mouton feels somewhat more
masculine and firmer than earlier bottles. Feels youthful and at peak at the
same time, will surely thunder along further. 95
1982 Château Mouton Rothschild
NOV 10 A level fill, bottom neck,
cork half soaked. Ruby with thin garnet rim. Sweet touch of prunes, ripe
blackcurrants, tobacco, touch of strawberries, fresh acidity and ripe tannins.
Pure, elegant, complex, intense, heavy fruit, intense more than real
complexity, long finish. 95
1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
MAR 10 Deep ruby, thin brick rim, A
level fill, soaked cork. Some dark fruits, floral notes, some green paprika,
tobacco, herbs, some liquorice, even leather behind. Great structure, fresh
acidity, a bit hollow on the mid palate, very long length. Not as lively and
delicate as one bottle a few weeks back, this seems less developed, and maybe
not as well stored? This had also travelled further just a week before. Lots of
things that could have played a part. 93
1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
MAR 10 Ruby with garnet rim, A level
fill, soaked cork, lots of sediments. Bright, beautiful ruby, garnet rim. What
a nose, tobacco, sweet dark fruits and perfumed, floral and blackcurrants,
expensive leather, actually a bit on the lean side, quite surprising,
especially with that sweetish hint at first, very mature compared to the 86,
fantastic structure, it has some very youthful attributes, the structure and some
of the overlying fruit tones seems very youthful, but underneath there is this
leather, starting prunes and sweeter black berries, even plums. Superb now. 96
1982 Château Mouton Rothschild
APR 08 Ruby with brick rim. Rich
nose, blueberries, figs, scented, floral, tobacco, exotic spices. Leather,
seductive. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, youthful, cassis, blueberries, spices,
almost tight at first, layered, structured behind it all, superb wine, long. 98
1982 Château Mouton Rothschild
AUG 07 Ruby. Dark fruits, floral
notes, cassis and blueberries, liquorice and leather, some bell peppers behind,
tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, cassis, blueberries, anise, layered,
blackberries, some figs, long but not quite the legend it's supposed to be. 95
1981 Château
Mouton Rothschild
AUG 11 Ruby with brick rim. Leather,
figs, prunes, lightly scented nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, fresh,
fairly easy going, good length. 87

Mouton Rothschild
SEP 13 Lover
neck fill. Pale ruby, garnet rim. Leather, cedar, truffles, cassis and bell pepper nose. Leaner. Fresh
acidity, tannins gone, leaner palate, some spices, prunes, forest floor, smells
lovely, on the lean side on the palate, elegant but some would say too thin. 90
1980 Château Mouton Rothschild
AUG 10 A level fill, cork almost
soaked, bright ruby, thin brick rim. Leather, cedar, extremely elegant and
complex nose, blackcurrants, pure and almost perfumed. Fresh acidity, a bit
lean and sour cherry fruit, tannins ripe, far better on the nose than in the
mouth, but that nose is exceptional Pauillac, good length. 87
1980 Château Mouton Rothschild
JUN 10 A level fill, cork soaked.
Bright ruby, broad garnet rim and orange outer rim. Leather, cedar,
blackcurrants, paprika, typical Pauillac, if on the leaner side and of lesser
intensity. Figs and dried fruits, tannins close to gone, acidity is good, even
playful, very elegant and nuanced, not at all big, think Burgundian in style
and body, with Pauillac flavours. Great and elegant length. 88
1979 Château
Mouton Rothschild
AUG 17 Ruby, brick rim. Earthy, some
figs and anise, very mature nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, red
berries, leaner, quite dusty, drying. Not the best bottle. 86
1979 Château Mouton Rothschild
AUG 12 Ruby, brick rim. Bell peppers,
herbs, tobacco, coffee and a bit heavy nose. Medium acidity, mature tannins,
almost gone, leaner body and fruit than nose. Dark chocolate bitterness in the
finish, wood polish. Only tasted this once before, and that felt fresher and
more together. 87
1978 Château
Mouton Rothschild
JAN 12 A level fill, soaked cork.
Ruby with brick rim. Leather, somewhat exotic, cassis, plums, cherries, rich if
not too intense nose, spices and sweet tobacco. Fresh acidity, tannins soon
gone, somewhat lean, mouthwatering if not a great Mouton, it manages to give
more pleasure than most wines at this score. 90
1977 Château

1976 Château

APR 10 In neck fill. Ruby, brick
rim. Cassis, leather, detailed, charming nose, some prunes and figs, detailed,
tobacco and cigars. Fresh acidity, some tannins still, fairly smooth texture,
dark plums and prunes palate, rounded, detailed and long, quite a charmer. 93
1975 Château
Mouton Rothschild:
JUN 13 (Imperial) Bright ruby,
garnet rim. Liquorice, leather, prunes and figs and a slightly scented nose.
Fresh acidity, ripe and few tannins, savory, refreshing, quite nuanced and long
finish. I've had fruitier and more complex bottles of this, but a great
experience even so. Served at Mouton Rothschild, directly from the estates
cellar. 90
1975 Château Mouton Rothschild
JUN 12 Top shoulder fill. Ruby,
brick rim. Cassis, prunes, figs, leather, cigars. Fresh mouthfeel, lovely
acidity, high of ripe tannins, fruity palate in a classic style, very long
finish. The acidity carries the fruit all the way. Last bottle was fresher and
tighter, more fruity, but this one showed nicely as well. 94
1975 Château Mouton Rothschild
JUL 10 Soaked cork, A/B level fill.
Ruby, brick rim, not dull, not bright, lot of fine sediments. Leather, cassis,
blackcurrants, very seductive nose, intense and complex, prunes, touch of
bonfire and dust, anise. Good texture and structure, ok acidity, not to high,
but do the job, tannins ripe, still grips, some metallic tones comes and goes,
redcurrants, very complex, always something happening, better than expected,
sour cherries, stable, fantastic length. 94
1974 Chateau
Mouton Rothschild
MAY 10 B level fill, cork almost
soaked. Bright ruby, broad brick rim, sediments. Lots of leather and figs, hay,
cigars and stable. Lean and drying out, very long, if not the best finish. 68

some figs and dates, very tired. 78
1973 Chateau
Mouton Rothschild
MAY 10 The wine that should have
been dead according to everything you read about it. B-B/C level fill, cork not
fully soaked. Bright ruby, orange rim, very developed nose, leather, cedar,
tobacco, like opening the door too an old Rolls-Royce. Some tar, touch of
iodine, lean body but still flirting, good acidity, very few tannins left,
drying a bit in the finish, but not at all critical, good length. Way above any
expectations. 85

JAN 10 Fill on C level, cork soaked,
garnet with orange rim. Light, some cigars and floral notes, then dental
office, Fluor and slightly metallic, then green apples, subtle changes all the
time, some red berries clinging on for their bare life. No tannins, ok acidity,
no length. 65
1967 Château
Mouton Rothschild
MAR 11 Only slightly above mid
shoulder fill, ruby with orange rim, fantastic nose, leather, figs,
blackcurrants, classic mature Pauillac on the lean side, floral and violets,
licorice and tobacco after twenty minutes. Good acidity, ripe tannins, drying
out on the palate, not that long and strawberries in the finish. After an hour,
more body and intensity, after three hours even more and a very long length. 89
1966 Château
Mouton Rothschild
FEB 12 Base neck fill. Ruby with
garnet rim. Some cassis, leather, figs, prunes, maturing nose. Fresh acidity,
ripe tannins, elegant and fruit driven, but not telling quite the nice story
some of these bottles can tell, fairly long. 92
1966 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
MAR 10 A/B level fill, ruby with
garnet rim, more youthful, sweet tobacco, sweet dark fruits, such elegance,
gaining in complexity with air, intense, totally different to the bottle a few
weeks back, this one is far better, seductive, fresh acidity, mature tannins,
perfect balance, such elegance. Fantastic finish. 94
1966 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
MAR 10 Dark ruby, brick rim, B/C-C level
fill, soaked cork. Tiring, leather and leafy, lots of dust, fresh acidity,
quite hollow mid palate, good length, has big trouble next to the 64 Latour,
would probably have done better by itself, but this bottle haven't had the best
life. 80
1966 Château Mouton Rothschild

shoulder fill. Figs, dates, exotic spices, leather, sweet tobacco, cedar, light
minerals nose, seductive. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, some anise, spices,

rim. Lots of sediments, top shoulder fill. Black tea, bergamot, figs, dates,
some exotic spices, raisins, elegant nose. Fresh acidity, some tannins left, figs,
spices, nuanced, leaner palate but elegant, quite lively, long. Much better
than last bottle. 93
1966 Château Mouton Rothschild
OCT 06 Lean and skinny even with
upper shoulder fill, but signs of seepage. Bought for 200,- DKR in Copenhagen.
But dead as a dodo.
1966 Château Mouton Rothschild
MAY 06 Ruby, brick rim. Tobacco,
cigars, exotic spices, figs and dates, intense nose. Fresh acidity, ripe
tannins, figs, dates, elegant, deeper notes, after reading all day for WSET
Diploma I really can't be bothered with a more thorough tasting note, but it
was just what I needed. 94

DEC 15 Garnet with broad brick rim.
Fragrant, cedar, floral, tobacco, exotic spices, nuanced, figs, dates, some
earthy notes far back that goes away with air. Fresh acidity, smooth and silky
texture, ripe tannins, elegant dried fruits, anise, spices, leather and sweet
tobacco, touch of mahogany far back, stunning length. A gentleman slowly waving
good bye as his ketch leaves the dock. 98
1961 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
JAN 08 Bright garnet with brick rim,
all bottles fill level B to B/C as I could see. Fantastic nose, mature, prunes,
liquorice, cedar, pencil, minerals, hay, medicine, blackcurrants, cigars, white
chocolate, some coffee and scented black tea. Such complexity and elegance,
very mature, perfect now, fresh acidity, ripe and mature tannins, will probably
keep another maybe 15 years, but no reason to wait. 99
1961 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
JAN 08 As the above, but even a bit
more intensity and freshness, perfection? 100
1961 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
JAN 08 This last one was a bit
leaner again, more like the first. Every one of them would likely get a 100
from me if not tasted side by side. 99
1959 Château

Mouton Rothschild
NOV 10 Bottle 91296. Mid shoulder
fill, cork soaked and smoldered up on pulling it. Brick with orange hue and
broad orange rim (also light when looking through the bottle). Sherry, metallic
and gone unfortunately. Another aspect of tasting this wine made it very special.
The wife of Baron Philippe de Rothschild were imprisoned in a concentration
camp during this vintage were she later died.
1934 Château

and pulverized on opening, low shoulder fill, ruby core with orange rim. Some
deep notes, sweet tobacco, ripe blackcurrants, violets, prunes, raisins, dates,
elegant, sweet anise. Fresh acidity, tannins, gone, elegant and charming, even
seductive, but a bit shorter than the 26 Balance is perfect, nice intensity and
complexity. 94
1926 Château
Mouton Rothschild
NOV 10 Cork soaked and fragile,
Mouton Rothschild and Pauillac stated on the part of the cork that came up
whole. Above mid shoulder, ruby with orange rim. Pencil shave, some green
peppers, leather, spices, elegant, anise, even some blackcurrants. Pure and
such elegance in the mouth, red berries, perfect texture, caressing, very
balanced acidity, works perfectly, some cigar notes, refreshing, intense, pure,
tannins almost gone. And such a length, last for minutes. 96
1921 Château
Mouton Rothschild
NOV 10 Note on the bottle states
1921 Mouton Rothschild, second Grand Cru. Label badly damaged, half a castle
barely visible, resembling that on Lynch Bages label on top of label, and below
MOU N ROTHS LD barely readable. Mid shoulder fill, nothing stated or visible on
old and soaked cork. Rubyish colour with orange rim. Pencil, cedar and whiff of
leather, anise with some fine Earl Grey tea notes. Fresh acidity, thin body and
palate, but the acidity carries it like a nerve holding it together, hollow,
lean and short finish. 80
