1986 Château Latour
NOV 13 New bottle fetched, low neck fill. Deep ruby, thin garnet rim. Tight, some vanilla, cassis, leather, burnt rubber and herbs. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, intensely structured, lacks fruit, not the best bottle I've had, must be warm storage. 87

1986 Château Latour
MAY 12 Ruby, garnet rim, cassis, cigars and cedar. Again tighter than normal, leaner feel, needed time and air to open. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, I love the texture and structure, long. 95

1986 Château Latour
NOV 11 Ruby with thin garnet rim, sediments. Rich, blueberries, coffee, vanilla, leather. Fresh acidity, slightly rustic mid palate, have had better bottles, long finish. Did not get better with air. From Rolf Aas. 92

1986 Château Latour
AUG 10 Bright ruby, cedar, cigars, blackcurrants, fresh plums, touch of red and darker berries, leather of best type, very elegant, open and showing for a Latour. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, slightly more evolved than Mouton and Lafite, surprisingly elegant. Very complex. There was a discussion later on if the bottle had a tiny bit of cork, or at least some off aromas. Luckily my glass was emptied by then, but I could feel a slight touch after fifteen- twenty minutes in another glass. In my book anyway, it was stellar! 96

1986 Château Latour
MAY 08 Ruby. Dark fruits, dates, tight, soldier like, correct but not telling that much. Fresh acidity, firm and ripe tannins, dark fruits, dates, structured, needs time to open, long and intense, letting go somewhat with air. Impressive rather than charming. 95

1976 Château Latour
JAN 13 Ruby, brick rim. Very tight. Cassis, leather giver little on the nose. Palate is fresh, almost lively acidity, ripe but highish tannins. Nuanced and a rich 76, an almost astringent acidity backbone that carries the flavours a long way. 93

Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, anise and spices, detailed, nuanced, bit of structure left, refined and on a different level compared to the other two. Long. 96

1975 Château Latour
NOV 13 Top shoulder fill, soaked cork crumbling to pieces when opened. Ruby, thin orange rim. Oxidized and off bottle

1975 Château Latour
NOV 12 Very top shoulder fill. Bright ruby, garnet rim. Opened up superbly with three hours of decanting. Intensely scented, more scented and cedar, plums, cassis and a very slight touch of prunes. Finest leather available. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins and quite noticeable even if ripe. Lovely. Lively, can be mistaken for lean mid-palate but lots of things going on. Refreshing and lively finish, superb complexity, very long finish. Exquisite with filet of venison. 98

1971 Château Latour
AUG 11 Ruby, brick rim, dusty, intense and tight at first. Needed half an hour to show fruit, cassis and plums, even prunes later on. Tight knit texture as well, OK acidity, like the Mouton lower than one would think, but nicely balanced to the body, towards hard tannins, good length. 90

1970 Château Latour
MAY 18 Bottom neck fill. Ruby with brick rim. Cassis, leather, some tobacco, oozes of cedar and tobacco, gentleman's bedroom, leather shoes, figs, dates, mint, layered, stunning nose, incredibly seductive nose, impossible to stop smelling this one. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, anise, dark berries, cherries, spices, figs, dates, nuanced, this is not young in any way but still the youngest bottle I've had of this. Superb. Still structured. Incredible length. 100

1970 Château Latour
NOV 17 Ruby, garnet rim. Figs, anise, leather, some cassis, liquorice, tobacco and cigars, not the most expressive bottle of this. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, structured, lacks some weight after some brilliant bottles, better than last bottle but not a perfect one. 94

NOV 13 In neck fill. Decanted for three hours. Deep ruby, garnet rim. Tight, closed, shut, red berries far behind. Finally some scented touch and floral notes starting to evolve, getting more intense, slowly, took five hours, layered, nuanced, violets, pure cassis, refreshing nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, massive, textured, a cathedral of a wine, massive mountain of tannins, takes time to open, long, nuanced, fresh. 98

1970 Château Latour
NOV 13 Bottom neck fill. Decanted thirty minutes. Deep ruby, garnet rim. Tight, cassis, some black tea, scented, ads with more air, very slow to evolve in the glass. coffee eventually, then red berries. Incredibly slow. Fresh acidity, ripe and massive tannins, tight as a athletes butt, firm, long and focused. Refreshing, lively and starting to really give with lots of air, but never top. 96

1970 Château Latour
MAY 13 Deep ruby. Intense, fruity, detailed, cassis, plums, leather, cedar, floral notes, tobacco, layered, deep and complex. Fresh acidity, mountain of ripe tannins, intense, deep, dark fruits, plums, figs, cassis, youthful for its age, detailed, layered, mouthwatering, spices and exotic notes, lacks a little something on last bottle, still excellent stuff, very long indeed. 98

1970 Château Latour
JAN 13 Bottom neck fill. Dark ruby with very thin brick rim. Intense nose, come out of the glass. Enormous complexity, touch of cedar, leather, cassis, plums, somewhat seductive, almost floral but nothing jumps out. Ever so slightly spicy.  More suggesting everything that’s in there. Fresh acidity, quite full bodied for Latour, ripe tannins, a superior bottle to the last one, more rounded and packed in so the mountain of tannins feel more integrated. Mouthwatering, the aftertaste is extremely long, goes on and on. With three hours in decanter it wraps the tannins in silk and gets ever rounder. 100

1970 Château Latour
MAY 11 I have been dreaming about a chance to taste this one for a long time. Even after some sixteen other bottles this Cathedral of a wine out-shined them all. Only above mid shoulder fill made me slightly worried, but for no reason at all. Ruby with garnet rim, pure Pauillac, as mighty as they get, refined and has it all. Intense. Earthy, roughish texture still, hefty and together, masculine body, cassis in abundance, fresh acidity, ripe and still a wall, no a mountain of tannins, youthful still needs time, what a potential. 100

1969 Château Latour
APR 19 Magnum. Ruby, garnet rim. Figs, dates, spices, dried fruits, raisins, black tea and floral high notes. Impressive nose. Fresh acidity, few tannins, minerals, mint, figs, dates, elegant texture, long. Better than the other magnum at the same dinner. Served at Academie du Vin dinner. NOV 12 Very top shoulder fill, excellent cork. Bright deepish ruby, very thin brick rim. Starting out earthy. After thirty minutes whiff of prunes and figs, cassis, pencil shaves, cedar, scented and superb nose. layered and complex. Absolutely gorgeous. Not decanted. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, and the tannins are perfectly integrated in the texture, soon polished off. Layered and mouthwatering, Aged and still youthful, gorgeous length. Best bottle I've had of 64 Latour. Minutes of length. Superb with classic grouse. Starting to dry far out in the finish after two hours if you had to much in the glass. With smaller pours, it held up superbly in the bottle. Drink soon. 96-97

1964 Chateau Latour
MAR 10 Dark ruby, brick rim. B/C level fill, soaked cork. Long. 99

1959 Château Latour

Cedar, a bit beyond fully mature, but this bottle not that far. Still lots of dried fruits. Subtle evolution and evolvement in the glass, the dust blows away after about thirty minutes, and just layers of pure, but dried fruit. Superb wine to meditate by the fireplace, a bit to nuanced for food, mellow and round, long. Pure enjoyment over almost three hours. 94-95
