Allary Haut-Brion/ La Passion Haut-Brion

Pessac-Leognan

Now gone, this property was in production from 1918 up until 1978 as Domaine de la Passion Haut-Brion. From 1978 it was made by Château Haut-Brion and the Allary family owning the estate labeled it La Passion. It was in fact either Haut-Brion or their second label in the bottles. From 1979 until 2007 the wine was part of Bahans Haut-Brion before four vintages of Allary Haut-Brion was made, ending with the 2011 as the vineyard of 1,3 hectare was sold to Haut-Brion.

1978 Domaine de La Passion Haut-Brion
OCT 14 Ruby with orange rim. Cassis, rose hips, cherries, wood polish and bell peppers nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, bit dry and sweet and sour, good length. From 1954 to 1978, the wine was produced under the name of La Passion Haut Brion. What smne people did not realize was from 1954 to 1978, the wine labeled La Passion Haut Brion was the exact same wine as either Haut Brion or the second label, Bahans Haut-Brion.

1978 Château La Passion Haut-Brion
SEP 10 A level fill, lots of sediments, dark brownish, dull with orange rim. Coffee, nuts, minerals, leather and some dried fruits. Ok acidity, old, lots of hardwood, tannins ripe but dry, very tired. Again I believe faulty storage. This was my first La Passion, but it has no likeness with other 78's tried, and it should not have been this tired.
(Even so, very drinkable indeed). 84
