2023 Sauternes and Loupiac
Surprising freshness and concentration in the vintage, well maybe not concentration, but that they would retain this level of acidity was unexpected. The tasting I normally atend to taste lots more Sauternes was not held this year, so unfortunately a rather limited selection, of some very lovely wines. Some, like Broustet, has made one of their best ever, as was their 2022, so maybe this estate is moving upwards.
Suduiraut with 100% Semillon and still retaining a bright liveliness to it, but it is one of the bolder and bigger expressions of Suduiraut. If you know your Jaguar XJ´s, and Suduiraut has always been one of the sleeker Sauternes, this vintage is the X350. Or the W140 S-Class.
Doisy Dubroca is again absolytely amazing, just like in 2022, and such a different expression from Doisy-Daëne. Talking about sleek Jaguar’s… Extravagant is exactly that, but in such a refined way. E-Type comes to mind.
Coutet and Fargues is also gorgeous this year, and Rayne-Vigneau really showed off very well indeed.

Golden. Detailed, fruit driven, nuanced, intense, peach and pineapples nose. Fresh acidity, peach, apricots, nuanced, elegant, fruit forward, long. I think the best Loupiac I have had. 89-91

2023 Château Bastor-Lamontagne
Pale golden. Peach, apples, some citrus, lighter nose, fruit forward. Fresh acidity, peach, apricots, pineapples, elegant fruit and texture. 89-91
2023 Château Broustet
Pale golden. Peach, apples, some spices, fruit forward nose, nuanced. Fresh acidity, detailed, fruit forward, lovely concentration, probably the best Broustet ever. It has never had this depth before. It is always clean and pure, now with that extra it has needed. 91-93
2023 Château Caillou
Golden. Peach, apples, some citrus, nuanced, detailed nose. Fresh acidity, fruit forward, nuanced, layered, elegant texture, long. 89-91
2023 Château Cantegril
Pale golden. Peach, apples, apricots, nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, apples, peach, minerals, elegant texture, smooth and silky. 90-92
2023 Château Climens
Golden. Peach, apricots, nuanced, fruit forward, detailed nose, elegant. Fresh acidity, peach, detailed, apricots, lighter bodied, elegant. 92-94
2023 Château Coutet
Pale golden. Peach, apples, elegant nose, fruit forward, nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, peach, apples, lemons, nuanced, lovely balance, detailed and long. A wonderful Coutet!One of my favourites this vintage. 94-96
2023 Château de Fargues
Pale golden. Peach, apples, lemons, some citrus, fruit forward nose, detailed and elegant. Fresh acidity, fruit forward, detailed, nuanced, fruit forward and bright, long finish. Beautiful. Bit lighter for fargues, yet superbly balanced and pure.A favourite this vintage. 95-97
2023 Château de Rayne Vigneau
Pale golden. Apricots, peach, fruit forward, nuanced nose, detailed and elegant. Fresh acidity, peach, apples, lively, refreshing, bright and nuanced, almost vibrant, long. With a fascinating saline touch. Gorgeous. A wonderful Rayne Vigneau. 93-95
